Netbook

I just bought a computer, first one in about 7 years iirc. It's an Asus Eee Pc which is a kind of tiny laptop called a netbook. I bought it with Windows XP installed for two reasons. firstly it is for work and I want to run MS Office to make labour saving tools for my staff. Secondly I want to be able to run VAG-COM a bit of software that talks to the engine management and other electronic systems on VWs, as I am going to buy a modern car soon, and I want to be able to do my own diagnostics. But there is some hope, I bought a netbook with a largish hard drive, so when I have bought an external dvd drive I will be able to install Linux and have a dual booting machine.

Setting up windows and installing all the guff needed to keep it secure was a real p.i.t.a, I have clearly gotten used to the luxury of Ubuntu Linux and Mac OSX in the 3 or so years it has been since I last ran a windows box of my own.

Now I need to investigate mobile broadband to see if I can get the net in a camper, which will enable me to obsess even more about the amount of rainfall, but maybe just maybe will enable us to travel to wherever fair weather may be.

Why

I have managed without this kind of thing for 30 something years, so why start now.

It's for me really, just to record my ruminations. I've never really worked up sustained ideas or beliefs, so if I document my cerebral meanderings, and keep it up I might manage to mine something useful from it. I guess there will be some topic headings: music, literature (I don't really dig any other art forms), nature, veedubs, dogs.

I fully expect posts to be sporadic, though I've just bought me a mobile computing device, currently en route from the vendor, so that I can be a bit more connected. The last couple of months have seen me delving into web2.0.

Disclaimer: I have been known to talk out my arse.
